The idea for the Sunday Freebies post originally stemmed from me joining FOPRR a Yahoo Group and signing up to donate 200 items to Friends Of Pine Ridge Reservation during 2016. Once I’d committed to send 200 items I began to think about what I could make to send. Up until then my focus in sewing for charity had been quilts. Quilts take quite a long time to make and it was clear that much as I’d love to, it wouldn’t be possible for me to make 200 quilts to send to Friends Of Pine Ridge…especially if I wanted to continue to donate to other organizations as well. On the FOPRR Yahoo Group someone posted a link to handcrafted items that were on Pine Ridge’s wishlist. From that I started to hop around the web, following links and watching tutorials. While hopping from place to place, downloading quilt patterns, children’s clothing patterns, patterns for baby items, and patterns for crochet items I decided that it would be nice if I collected and shared my finds. In that the idea of the Sunday Freebies posts was born.
This week I’ve finally finished my first group of hats that will go to Pine Ridge. These are items 1-6. I thought it’d be fun to share the images as the year progresses.
These hats don’t really use a pattern…I used a tutorial from YouTube to get the basic idea and have followed my own muse since then.
Here’s the tutorial:
Here are the hats I made following the tutorial and adjusting the size to fit various sizes from small child to adult size.
Though I’m showing you hats this week I’ve continued to collect patterns for quite a few other projects–from quilts to walker totes–to clothes for children. Here are this week’s finds. I hope you find something that inspires you to create something fun for yourself or for someone else.

This week I did something different with Embroidery Freebies and collected some almost freebies. These are SETS of designs which are part of the treasure hunt at Secrets of Embroidery. The sets listed here are $1. Yes, you read it right $1. There are some BEAUTIFUL designs. I didn’t find ALL the freebies listed for any of the designer as I hopped around clicking on the sets that I thought I’d be most likely to use for myself, gifts, or charity projects. Here’s what I found. I didn’t get through even half of the sites that are part of the treasure hunt.
