As prices have climbed higher in fabric shops, I’ve become more interested in finding sites (online and offline) that offer good quality fabric at discounted prices.
When I created the original inexpensive fabric list back in 2015 I thought of fabric in the $7 a yard price range as discounted enough for the list.
When I revised the where to buy bargain fabric list in 2020 I raised the price to be included in the list to $8 a yard.
With this revision to the list I’m raising the price to be included as a site that sells bargain fabric to $10 a yard…this is because most sites are selling fabric for $12 a yard and some are higher than that.
My trifecta for judging sites (determining which ones to recommend) include:
- Good Quality fabric
- Enough fabric and enough variety to make it worthwhile to shop there
- Sale prices of $10 a yard or less
5 Bucks A Yard
5 Bucks A Yard, true to their name still has some fabric for less than $5 a yard. Most of their stock is in the $6 – $8 range with some of the newer fabrics priced at $10.58. Wide backing fabrics are in the $18 – $20 range.
AAA Quilter’s Supply
AAA Quilter’s Supply has a sale tab where most of their fabric is in the less than $5 a yard price range. However, most of the site features prices less than $10 a yard.
Abbi May’s
Abbi May’s has a sale tab where most of their fabrics are in the $5 – $6 per yard range. There’s a decent selection in the sale section, including some cute panels.
Brooklyn Fabrics
Brooklyn Fabrics has a large clearance section with all of their clearance fabrics selling for $7 a yard. They have a big selection with a lot of fun, kid friendly fabrics. There are some cute panels there as well.
Connecting Threads
Connecting Threads has a large clearance section stocked with cute panels, lots of blenders, some cute children’s fabrics and more. Most prices are in the $6 – $7 per yard range.
Ethelbird & Eliza
Ethelbird & Eliza specializes in children’s fabric. They have a nice stash of kid friendly fabrics in their clearance section which is segregated from $9 a yard down to $3 a yard. This is one of my favorite shops for buying kid friendly fabric.
Fabric Outlet
Fabric Outlet offers a big selection of fabric with prices in the $5.99 – $6.99 range with licensed fabrics (Scooby Do, Marvel, Spiderman) selling for $8.99 – $9.99. They also have backing fabrics for $8.99 a yard. Check them out for precuts too.
Fabric Shack
Fabric Shack was one of my favorite brick and mortar stores when I lived in Cincinnati. It remains a favorite though I live far from there now and have to content myself with online shopping. Check out the On Sale tab at Fabric Shack where they have over 150 pages of sale fabrics. Sale prices range from $4.99 a Yard to $9.98 a yard. You’re sure to find something you can’t live without here.
Gardensong Fabrics
Check out the sale tab at Gardensong Fabrics for a large selection of sale fabrics with prices ranging from $6 – $9 a yard.
Hancock’s of Paducah
Hancock’s of Paducah is one of my favorite places to shop for sale fabric just because of the variety they carry in their sale area. Prices are generally around the $5.99 – $6.99 range. They have a ton of beautiful batiks in the $6.99 range and lots of florals and other fun fabrics in the $5.99 range.
Keepsake Quilting
Keepsake Quilting has a lot of clearance fabric though their prices range higher than some of the other shops with most of their sale fabric in the $7 and above price range.
Marshall Drygoods
No list of bargain fabric sources would be complete without Marshalls. Most everything at Marshalls is bargain priced. They have tons of fabric in the $4.99 price range – and it’s even cheaper if you catch it on sale or buy a whole bolt, which I do sometimes for quilt backings. They’re a great source for white on white and cream on cream which I use a lot for several ongoing scrap projects.
Odds and Ends Fabric
Odds and Ends Fabric has a good selection of sale fabrics. The prices range from $4.95 to $7.99, in general. They have a good variety, even a bit of flannel.
Old Country Store Fabrics
Old Country has a lot of sale fabric. It generally runs in the $7 – $9 range. Go to the home page and then click on sale at the top of the page to find the sale items.
Quilted Twins
Quilted Twins doesn’t have the volume or variety of sale fabric that some of the other sites have. What they do have is priced in the $5.99 – $6.99 price range. It’s definitely worth a look for stash building.
Quilt Fabric Closeouts
One of my favorite sections at Quilt Fabric Close Outs is its Newest Arrivals section. That section spotlights collections that are new in their shop. Shopping that section one can easily find a range of coordinating fabrics. That said, they also arrange their fabrics by brand, style, color, and collection, which makes finding the specific pieces needed for a project easy. They have a really nice selection, and it is well arranged. Most fabrics in the shop are $7.50 or less.
Quilt Lizzy
Quilt Lizzy offers a selection of sale fabrics. They’re definitely worth a look, especially for stash building. Prices are generally in the $8 and $9 range.
Thousands of Bolts
Thousands of Bolts is among my favorite shops for bargain fabric. Most of the quilts I make have at least a piece or two of fabric from Thousands of Bolts. Undoubtedly the reasons for this include the massive selection which is sortable by color and in some instances theme. I also like the color picker on the site which makes it easy to select a color in a focus fabric and find other coordinating fabrics. The design wall is great too as it helps one to visualize how fabrics look together. Prices for everything on the site range from $5.39 – $9.95 for 45″ fabric. Wide backs are a bit more at a typical price point of $13.95.
Whittle’s Fabric
Whittle’s is a big site with pages and pages of fabrics in the $5.95 – $7.95 price range. They have their fabric arranged by color, manufacturer, designer and theme.
