Machine Embroidered Baby Carriage Quilt

Machine Embroidered Baby Quilt

This quilt combines two of my loves – machine embroidery and quilting.

This quilt is very much machine embroidery combined with a very simple quilt layout. I think the pastel colors used for the embroidered baby carriages and the pastel fabrics that act as frames for the embroidered quilt blocks add a sweet touch. It tends toward an older world feel as many modern quilts for babies employ a brighter color palette.

The pastel color palette and the high percentage of white in this quilt is part of the reason it was finished sometime in 2021 but I am just getting around to sharing it.

I was inspired to make the quilt when I saw the dainty, old-fashioned baby carriage design at an Etsy shop. I decided on pastel colored baby carriages framed with pastel solids as the palette for the quilt. Though I had a vision of the quilt that guided its construction, I didn’t have a forever home in mind for it when I made it. I ultimately ended up giving it to a young mom in our community.

Most of the quilts I make are either gifts or they are donation quilts. Most of the charities I contribute to are in third world areas or are in areas that are nearly as disadvantaged with poor laundry facilities. This quilt is not really ideal for those locations where without adequate laundry facilities all the white on this quilt would soon become dingy.

I generally take the tact that if I make a quilt the right owner for it will turn up in the proper way at the proper time. That did indeed happen with this embroidered baby quilt.
