While I’m titling this post “new quilt – Batik Quilt“ this is not really a new quilt in the sense that I didn’t start it last week or even last month. In truth, I started it just after Christmas, 2019 – just before Covid turned everyone’s world upside down.
Because of Covid and a lot of other life changes quilting time became very short between 2019 and 2023. During the time between 2019 and today I quilted in snippets whenever I could snag a few minutes. I put together one of the blocks for the batik quilt (and blocks for other quilts) whenever I could spare a few minutes. As is usually the case with quilting, the little bits of time eventually resulted in a set of blocks. I made this set using the churn dash quilt pattern and batik fabrics.
My initial plan was to set the blocks side by side with no sashes between the blocks…but as I looked at the blocks arranged side by side, I decided I liked the narrow, darker, 1 1/2 inch sashing, which I think sets the blocks off nicely.
This quilt was inspired my niece’s husband who under questioning about his likes and dislikes shared that he liked green. Since I’d been toying with the idea of making a quilt using entirely batik fabrics, I decided to go with batik fabrics. I settled on the churn dash quilt pattern because the pattern is simple enough to allow the fabrics to take center stage. Pattern chosen and fabric palette decided, I started the quilt as a Christmas present for my niece’s husband. Of course, that was several Christmases ago.
The photo shows the first 3 rows of what will be an 8 row quilt. (Excuse my row labels on the first column of blocks.)
It’s now about time to search for batting and quilting thread for the longarm. Connecting Threads has a nice selection of both threads and batting so I’ll be checking them out.
I’m sharing this for Sew and Tell over at Melva Loves Scraps, Friday Foto Fun at Powered By Quilting and Brag About Your Beauties over at Bolt To Beauty.
